About the programme

Since 1988, the Ikateleng Project has stood as a visionary initiative by the North-West University, tackling the educational challenges that secondary school learners in South Africa face in the science and commerce subject streams. It is a leading comprehensive supplementary instruction programme, dedicated to helping learners achieve academic excellence and readiness for university life.

What we commit to

  • Improving examination results for tertiary admission
  • Helping learners apply to university and prepare for university life
  • Supporting learners to qualify for merit bursaries
  • Building lifelong skills for academic and personal success

Two streams, 17 Saturdays

The programme runs across 17 Saturdays in two subject streams. Learners receive transport and catering during contact sessions, so that getting there is never the reason a learner misses out.

Stream 1 · Natural Sciences

Mathematics · Physical Sciences · Life Sciences · English

Stream 2 · Economic and Management Sciences

Mathematics · Accounting · Economics/Business Studies · English

Getting there is covered

Transport and catering are provided during contact sessions, so distance and cost are never the reason a learner misses out.

How learners are selected

Learners are selected on academic performance — a 55% average, plus the subject requirements for their stream. Teachers are chosen for their subject expertise and their commitment to the learners.
